Welcome to Kranky Town!

There once was a place called Kranky town. The reason for its name, as you may have guessed, is the folks who lived there were kranky. Now there are lots of reasons to be kranky. But, the reason folks in this town were kranky had a lot to do with their thumbs.

You see, the folks who lived in Kranky town rarely gave their thumbs a chance to truly live. By living I mean do the things that thumbs do like hold a friend’s hand, strum a guitar, read an old fashioned book (made of paper and binding), or simply wave and say, “Hi.” Instead, they spent a lot of time on their human’s phones — from sun up until sun down, checking the news (so scary!), seeing what their friends are doing, and watching people make things over and over again.

After years and years of this, their thumbs just got pissed. And, stayed pissed. Now folks are kranky and live in Kranky town.

BUT, it doesn’t have to be this way. You can make your thumb happy. Happy thumb, happy life!

There are lots of ways to make your thumb happy. It all begins by having the courage to put down those cell phones. Here at the Kranky Thumb Collective we are working to slow our scroll and to remember what it means to be human without those screened devices.

It’s time to rediscover what gives our lives meaning.

There’s a lot of talk right now about the harm cell phones and social media are causing us. But, have you considered how our screened devices impact our ability to make meaning in our lives? We lean on cellphones to navigate nearly every aspect of our lives including what to do when we have nothing to do. How often do we pick up our cellphones during commercials, while cooking, at a bus stop—just to pass the time? How do we discover what gives our lives meaning when we lean on our cellphones for almost everything?

When the daily stress and anxiety of life kicks in The Kranky Thumb Collective is here to say there’s another way of making if through each day besides picking up your phone to scroll. KTC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on empowering folks to rediscover what gives their lives meaning by first redefining their relationships with their screened devices, social media and now AI. Participating in The Kranky Thumb Collective is free. No gimmicks. Just real people who are passionate about our collective mental health for the sake of humanity and the natural world.
